“Bodywork is essential to movement.”
Before going to massage school, Priscilla worked in insurance for 18 years, where auto accidents and bodily injury (and storm chasing!) were part of her day-to-day. Then she suffered her own car accident and fractured her tailbone. The year-long effort to heal from that took her through acupuncture, chiropractic, and yoga to massage.
Burned out on insurance work, she had already become a Crossfit coach and a yoga teacher but had not yet left the industry. A session with a life coach suddenly clarified her path, as she found herself declaring “I want to empower people through movement.” A week later, she enrolled in massage school. Priscilla’s goal is to help people return to their bodies, find space within their tissues to heal and feel the unique sense of empowerment that comes through natural, pain-free movement. Clients describe her sessions as having a feeling of groundedness and safety. Her experience makes her adept at working with people recovering from traumatic injury, as well as athletes, who appreciate her first-hand knowledge of their issues. Early on, she was able to use her knowledge from Crossfit (Functional Fitness), yoga, assisted stretching, and massage to help an elderly client begin walking unassisted after a traumatic injury. More commonly, she enjoys working on neck and upper-back tension and hip issues, and she likes helping people stretch and using cupping and hot stones to gently get deeper into stubborn tissues. She says, “I am very curious and I like to create solutions.” Expect to leave her treatments better informed and armed with personalized self-care practices. A Texas native, Priscilla came to Tucson by way of Colorado, lured by our bike paths (she was training for Ironman at the time), the saguaros, and the magical beauty of the desert. Also, the lack of snow (“I was just done with cleaning up snow... so over it.”). She has so many hobbies, that it’s better to let her tell you: “I have SO MANY hobbies! I'm a photographer. I love partner dance (salsa is my favorite, 2-step and Bachata are tied for second!). I love coaching functional fitness and Crossfit. Biking, running, swimming, and hiking are also top on my list of ways to move my body. I have two dogs: a 17-year old maltipoo named Summer I've had since she was 10 weeks old and a little chihuahua who entered my life about a year ago. He was found roaming Reid Park. I named him Guerro and am keeping him forever. I love traveling and chasing sunsets.” |
