Born and raised in Maryland, Nathanael moved to Costa Rica in 2016, where he enrolled in an intensive program at the Costa Rica School of Massage Therapy, then relocated to Tucson to begin his massage career.
As someone highly attuned to movement, Nathanael has, in developing as a practitioner, come to understand massage as a kind of moving meditation. Immersing himself in the flow of a treatment allows him to connect with clients and focus on how their physical, mental, and emotional bodies respond to his work. Nathanael sees massage not as a luxury, but as an integral part of a healthy life. He puts this view into practice by developing a treatment plan for each client, customizing his sessions with various modalities, and showing clients how to better care for their bodies. A typical session with Nathanael leaves the client feeling both thoroughly "worked" and relaxed. He is mindful to check in with each client to find the right pace and amount of pressure to catalyze a release. His style of massage balances well-trained efficacy and intuitive care. Of great importance is connecting with clients on an emotional level, so that he can guide them through anything that may come up during the session with compassion and understanding. The first session begins with an intake form, used to establish a goal, then paying close attention to the physical, mental, and emotional responses of the client's body. Subsequent sessions focus on specific areas based on the initial impact of the work. After the massage, clients are invited to turn their attention within and inquire about any shifts or differences they may notice in their bodies. Nathanael will suggest movements or stretches that support the work to practice in between sessions. With each session, he pays close attention to the client's r esponses to find opportunities to trigger release. Nathanael believes that “when you feel, you heal.” The clients who benefit most from Nathanael’s work are those wanting to make a change in their lives, but who are in need of support or direction. Whether the goal is to increase range of motion, improve muscle function, or ease life stress, Nathanael can provide the appropriate blend of emotional insight and physical bodywork to facilitate real change. In his free time, Nathanael enjoys practicing capoeira and wing chun, as well as movement training with kettlebells that incorporates primal movements. He loves mountain biking, hiking, reading and cooking. Above all, he values a way of living that honors thinking clearly, feeling deeply, and willing strongly. |
