Rachael’s intuition knew that she was meant to be a healer, but it took a traumatic incident—being thrown off a horse—to bring that knowledge to full consciousness. Today, she considers Blossom (the horse) a benevolent teacher, but at the time, all she knew was that everyday life came to a halt.
“I landed on my shoulder, broke my collarbone, shattered my scapula and had a concussion,” she says. “It took about 6 months to fully recover. I couldn’t drive to see her and definitely couldn’t ride.” Despite the pain and the disruption of life, she considers it an awakening. “That made me slow down, start asking for more help. And it really helped ground me and show me answers I’d been searching for. I meditated a lot while being laid up. What was Blossom trying to tell me?” She emerged from this time with a vision of her path as a healer. She trained as a yoga teacher, then as a reiki practitioner. She studied herbalism, and, finally, became a massage therapist. Rachael’s sessions always promote deep relaxation while addressing any issues the client communicates. “Many of my clients fall asleep and wake up feeling better!” Because it takes consistency to continue improvement, she often gives her clients exercises for problem areas between appointments. Rachael has helped clients with various medical conditions and sports injuries, using modalities and techniques like reflexology, myofascial release, and assisted stretching. She has supported physical and emotional releases. She offers prenatal massage and also works with children. “I’ve always given massage to my children,” she notes. The key to doing all this work effectively? “I communicate and listen. Tell me your ailments, and I’ll do my best with what I know (and continue to research!), send you home with exercises, and co-create a sustainable therapeutic regimen to help restore physical ability.” Rachel grew up “in tall grass and wildflowers, near Grand Rapids, Michigan,” but the spirit of adventure brought her to the Southwest. “I wanted to climb every mountain and touch the sky!” She didn’t plan to stay, but she soon met Jody, the man who would become her husband, put down roots, and started a family. They own and run a restaurant (where she works behind the scenes) while raising their three children, Jolene, Ronin, and Murphy. What has Rachael learned on the way to becoming a healer? “Pay attention to the signs and things you think you see; the universe is always guiding you. I have my partner, my children, and Blossom, the beautiful red roan mustang, to thank for the path I’m walking today.” MT-50824
