“She is fantastic and a wealth of knowledge for whole-body wellness. Her massage style is unique to anything I’ve experienced before and I left feeling so fluid and pain-free!”
Although born in Tucson, Nana has spent half her life in New York and New Jersey. Until 2013, her career was focused on her family’s shoe business. Working in this field, she thought a lot about the foot, its structure and function, and how it affects the rest of the body. Other things in her life made physical wellness a top-of-mind subject. Accidents and sports injuries from her youth led to long-term chronic pain, and of all the ways she tried to manage this pain, only massage helped consistently. That eventually motivated her to change careers so that she could help others with similar struggles. “I can relate with clients that have similar complaints,” she says.
That empathy has led her to develop a truly unique approach to massage. Nana describes herself as “a highly intuitive, therapeutic energy healer.” Her work is strongly informed by her personal qi gong practice, but the energetic aspect stands out the most. “Clients can feel my energy,” she says. “Some ask if I am doing Reiki.” In practice, this means a treatment that may be unlike any you’ve ever had, with movements and strokes that are alternately invigorating and soothing, resulting in a state of enlivened relaxation. But she remains “very technical” in her approach. “I try to find the source of the complaints to relieve the referred pain. My treatment plans are goal focused and results oriented,” she says, adding that she is sometimes called “the fixer.” Her technique—which incorporates soft tissue manipulation, reflexology, energy work, and myofascial release—aims to help the process of working through physical, mental and emotional trauma—experiences that may manifest as general chronic discomfort through the fascia system of the body. The goal is to not only address physical discomfort but also to alleviate emotional pain within the body. Because she sees the body as an integrated system rather than a collection of parts, NaNa only gives full-body treatments. Outside of work, Nana enjoys cooking, practicing qi gong, making crafts, and wire wrapping. She sells energy-infused crystal jewelry and crafts through her side business, Na B Designs. Of returning to the Southwest, she says, “Although I have no recollection of Tucson. I always felt a connection. After I became an LMT, my heart kept calling me back. So happy I followed my heart.” MT-28611
