From a young age, Maria has been drawn to healing systems beyond the mainstream medical paradigm. The notion that health in the individual is absolutely dependent on the harmonious interplay of the mind, body, emotions, and spirit is a truth that has always resonated with her. This strong connection led her to explore many healing modalities, including massage therapy, reiki, folk herbalism, and shamanic healing. She is a reiki master and has used herbal medicine and energetic healing as a core approach to her personal health for most of her life. But it was acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine in particular that helped Maria’s body, heart, and mind endure a very stressful and transitional part of her life and led her to become a practitioner of these disciplines.
In her work, Maria listens closely to what the client’s body is saying to reveal the strong but often unacknowledged connection between physical and emotional health. This approach can have profound effects, shifting awareness and the physical state to reveal what ails us, that which causes us “dis-ease” and pain. Her acupuncture style focuses on gentle techniques, including pulse diagnosis, abdominal palpation, and Japanese-style needling. Maria’s approach is helpful for most conditions, but is particularly useful for individuals with autoimmune disorders, chronic illness, and pain, as well as those seeking mental-emotional balance. An initial appointment lasts 1½ hours and includes a longer intake interview to establish a comprehensive patient history. This is followed by the first acupuncture or Tuina session and a post-treatment review with recommendations as to further treatments. Returning patients can expect a session to last about 50 minutes, with a shorter intake. Any acupuncture session may also include moxibustion, cupping, and tuina bodywork, depending on the focus of treatment. You may also schedule a 60- or 90-minute session dedicated to Tuina bodywork for musculoskeletal issues or for general relaxation and stress management. Maria moved to Tucson from Philadelphia in 2018 after 20 years working in the restaurant industry. Shortly thereafter, she embarked on a journey as a student of acupuncture and Chinese Medicine. She spends her leisure time pursuing her love of plants and herbs and working on home fermentation projects and herbal preparations. She is an amateur mycologist and often has medicinal and gourmet mushrooms growing in her greenhouse. |
The pursuit of healing has brought a clarity to Maria’s perception of life and health on a personal and collective level. As she puts it, “The path of the heart forms a bridge between the physical, the emotional, and the ethereal, or less tangible, aspects of existence. The heart is an intelligent force orchestrating input from the earth and the cosmos. The heart path connects us to all parts of ourselves. The heart path connects us to our fellow human beings. The heart path connects us to the Earth and all our relations. And the heart path connects us to the great mystery of the beyond. Our healing on a personal level is intrinsically linked to all parts of ourselves and to all other things. This concept of the heart being a link between that which lies below and that which lies above is reflected in spiritual and esoteric teachings globally. In Traditional and Classical Chinese Medicine, the heart spirit is referred to as the Shen and oversees the functions of the other spirits that reside in the vital yin organs of the human body. The path of healing by the heart’s wisdom connects us to all parts of ourselves and brings that which is separate or disconnected into a harmonious, dynamic, interactive whole.” PRICING
