Deanna has been a licensed massage therapist and shiatsu practitioner since 2003, and an instructor for most of that time.
As with many massage therapists, her journey to becoming one began at home. “I used to help my Mom with migraines when I was in my teens by putting my hands on her neck and head. I must have found out at some point that touch therapy is an actual profession, because I told her at that time that I was going to be a massage therapist when I grew up. About 15 years later, I did.” Her work is informed by her teaching and 30-plus-year personal practice of mindfulness meditation, along with a long-held, deep interest in the integration of mind and body. “I know that deep healing begins with a relaxed body and mind,” she says, “because slowing down is the first step in any transformational, lasting change.” Both her massage and mindfulness work are expressions of Deanna’s commitment to supporting her community with inner and interpersonal strategies for cultivating deep healing, well-being, and resilience. Deanna employs her training in both manual therapy and embodiment practices in her massage work. Along with specific, therapeutic massage and bodywork techniques known to reduce pain and stress, she uses mindfulness techniques to help you explore your relationship to pain and stress. She never applies any technique without your permission. Deanna is committed to listening to you about your condition and working with you to find solutions for your particular experience of pain and discomfort. Deanna has held several leadership positions in the world of massage and bodywork, including Campus President and Education Director for Cortiva Institute Tucson and Regional Director for Arizona School of Integrative Studies. Outside of work, Deanna loves walking out in nature, playing music, and birdwatching with her wife. “And I love studying and practicing the Dharma.” MT-01979P
