Anne Marie had aIways wanted to do something in the medical field. She shadowed a pediatrician and an EMT but felt most drawn to physical therapy. With her background in cross country and track, as well as dance, it was natural that she gravitated to sports physical therapy. After working for a few years, she witnessed the benefits of manual techniques and wanted to learn more. Not one to do things by halves, she completed a program in osteopathy and started her own practice, Subtle Harmony Physical Therapy, in Brooklyn, New York, in 2007.
Anne Marie uses a gentle manual osteopathic approach, treating not just symptoms, but the whole person, while addressing the primary cause of dysfunction. Anyone who wants to reduce pain, maximize function, and optimize the body's innate ability to heal itself can benefit from treatment. For each patient, she crafts a unique, personalized treatment plan comprising a blend of traditional physical-therapy and osteopathic manual techniques. When necessary, office treatments are supplemented with a customized home-exercise program to improve flexibility, increase strength, and develop or refine body awareness. The first visit begins with a discussion of your health history, followed by a full treatment. Each session consists mainly of light touch and gentle pressure throughout various places on the body. The benefits of manual therapy include realignment of the body, release of emotions and trauma from tissues, and relaxation of the nervous system. “Most sessions are relaxing,” Anne Marie says, “There’s always a bit of spiritual work included when working with fluids and tissues. Everyone’s body has a story to tell.” Patients wear comfortable clothing during treatment. They generally find it gentle and calming and leave with an overall sense of wellness and vitality. Each session is private, one-on-one, and lasts 60 minutes. Anne Marie follows up in a week to see how the patient is doing. Originally from Portsmouth, Rhode Island, Anne Marie lives in Vail with her husband, 3 kids, her dad, and two Mississippi map turtles. She loves racing sprint triathlons, okra, herbal teas, and poke bowls. |
